House of Rock Teen Summer Camp

Play in a band this summer! Open to all teens that have some experience playing guitar, bass, drums, keyboard, horns, singing, or any other instrument.

  • Beginner weeks are for teens that can play but have never been in a band setting.

  • Intermediate is for those who have taken beginner or have played in a band before.

  • Songwriting and recording week is open to all levels.

Learn how to play together as a band and perform live at Moe’s BBQ (part of the Gothic Theatre). In each session, you’ll learn how use your gear, play through a sound system, how to find and create your part in a band, song write, play with your peers, and put it together in a band. You’ll also get individual instruction on your instrument in sectionals everyday. Students also can take private lessons from one of our instructors on any instrument anytime after camp up until 9 p.m.

Songwriting and recording students will get to use Swallow Hill’s recording studio and will produce professional quality recordings of their own songs. Studio time with our sound-engineer is included in the price. Swallow Hill has been a leading music institution in Denver for 31 years.

About the House of Rock Director:
Chad “Chadzilla” Johnson has been a member of the Swallow Hill faculty since 2000, mainly as a drum teacher. He soon realized the need for his private students to experience what he has enjoyed for 30 years: the thrill and enjoyment of playing live music with other musicians in a preferred style. With the help of Michael Schenkelberg in 2007, the House of Rock was born. With a great knowledge of rock and roll instruments and a performing career in dozens of musical styles spanning more than 20 years, Chadzilla knows how to help young people learn, prepare and enjoy the experience of musical camaraderie. He is also a composer, producer and bandleader.
