DENVER, COLO. (10/28/08) --
Swallow Hill presents old-time
flavors with hints of jugband, ragtime, swing, blues and more from two young and
up-and-coming bands, The Wiyos and Boulder Acoustic Society, as they share the
Daniels Hall stage on Saturday, November 22 at 8 p.m.The Wiyos are a Brooklyn, New York-based trio who bring
"exuberance and intensity to (these) vintage styles" (The New Yorker). In
their five-year lifespan, they've driven more than 400,000 miles through seven
countries and played more than 1,000 shows. Their three full length albums
seamlessly blend their songwriting with a wide spectrum of vernacular American
music. Currently they're turning into a quartet as they collaborate with Teddy
Weber (of The Hunger Mountain Boys) to write new songs as well as work on their
new, fourth album.
Boulder Acoustic Society has long been one of Swallow Hill's favorite bands,
loved by audiences throughout the region, and about whom Darol Anger says, "is
the future of String Band Music on a silver platter." One of Colorado's busiest
bands, they recently played Red Rocks Amphitheatre for the Film on the Rocks
series, and have a new release out, The Caged Bird, which is getting
glowing reviews.
