HIGHLIGHTS
The Greencards
Sat, May 29
You could call it an attraction…a curiosity…an anticipation of surprise and delight; but there’s a better word to describe the music of The Greencards: Fascination. With their songs grounded deep in the traditions of American-roots and bluegrass, The Greencards are elevated by breathtaking technique and conceptual adventurousness. Paste magazine has called their 2009 album, Fascination, "… their most inventive yet...[the] musically curious album more than lives up to its title."
Storyhill—Album Release Concert
Fri, June 4
With airtight harmonies that drive introspective lyrics and innovative arrangements, critics agree that acoustic-folk duo
Storyhill proves that relevant, inspiring folk music didn't end with the likes of Simon & Garfunkel or Loggins & Messina.
Billboard Magazine has said of the duo, “Storyhill has garnered strong support on the college and coffeehouse circuit. Their sound recalls the harmonious interplay of Simon and Garfunkel and the acoustic juice of the Indigo Girls.” For this concert, Storyhill is playing in support of their new album,
Shade of the Tree, their sophomore release with the folk-powerhouse label Red House Records.
The Wiyos
Fri, June 11
The Wiyos have dedicated over 6 years to touring the US and Europe. They draw from a vast spectrum of traditional American rural and urban roots music, crafting their own startlingly fresh yet strangely familiar sound. Featured artists in the BBC film documentary Folk America, The Wiyos recently toured as the support act for the 2009 Bob Dylan Show summer tour, and their latest album, Broken Land Bell, has enjoyed international acclaim. The LA Times calls them "fabulously skilled and inspired kooks!" and The New Yorker exclaims "The group brings exuberance and intensity to these vintage styles."
